Sharpshooter Training not only vigorously applies ISD/SAT methodology to every training effort, their principals have written four published reference ‘how-to’ manuals on the subject:

  • Systems Approach to Training (SAT) User's Guide – Serves as a doctrinal source with “how-to” information for applying the ISD/SAT model in the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of training.
  • Instructional Systems Development (ISD) for Basic Military Training – The effort involved the analysis of the target audience (BMT curriculum developers and instructors) to determine how they applied ISD in the BMT environment.  We tailored the entire ISD model to fit this environment, resulting in an ISD handbook delivered as part of AFH 36-2235.
  • Interactive Courseware (ICW) Design Guide – The ICW Design Guide contains the "how-to" information for selecting suitable candidate courses for conversion to ICW; designing flowcharts and storyboards; developing instructional strategies that maximize the ICW environment and best support the subject matter; selecting and designing media to best convey a message to include when and where to use audio, video, animation, and text; designing ICW exercises, tests, and feedback; and designing computer-managed instruction (CMI) features.
  • SAT Evaluation User's Guide – The SAT Evaluation User's Guide was designed as a ready reference for evaluating instructional programs.  The Guide expands on the Evaluate Phase of ISD/SAT to include detailed data collection, testing, and measurement techniques; statistical analysis; and the reporting of evaluation results.  The effort involved researching statistical methods and processes to detail the steps in conducting formative and summative evaluations, performing statistical analyses, and analyzing and interpreting evaluation results.
